Mini Books are awesome for multi-skill practice

I always love how using mini books allows students to have a book to practice high-frequency words.  I like to add these to their personal book bins or bags (Ziploc bags) that they can also use as their “I can read books” or “take home books.”  These are also great for buddy reading or reading during independent reading time.  Students can even record themselves reading to practice fluency.

Also, students gain confidence in reading and practice fine motor skills when cutting out the pages.  They also practice sequencing the pages in order.

Some of my favorite ways to use mini books

•Reading center/station

•Writing center/station

•Holiday unit

•Research unit

•Library lesson extension

•Differentiation

•Sub Plans

St. Patrick’s Day Mini Book prep

•Scissors

•Glue

•Crayons

•Stapler (teacher)

HELPFUL TIP:  Prepare a few assembled books ahead of time in case a student has difficulty using scissors.  This makes a great activity for classroom volunteers, student teachers, interns, upper-grade student helpers, etc.
